Oh, What Pampered Kids We Have

February 18, 2010

Listening to the radio I heard a commercial for a new thermometer.  The mother feared Timmy had a fever and tells him she needs to check his temperature.  Timmy whines that he hates sticking that thing in his ear…  his ear!

Timmy has no idea where they used to stick those things.  He’s complaining about his ear, imagine the poor kid in our primitive childhood when we had to drop trow to get a reading.  (I know, I know, my Dad had to walk miles to school uphill both ways, but come on!)

Ha! Ha! Just found your post whilst searching to see how my own appeared. It’s along a similar line:

I had to laugh the other day when one of my daughters asked how I kept in touch with my school friends before mobile phones were invented.

She was aghast at the reply that I had to walk several miles to a friend’s house, knock on the door and ask if they were “coming out to play”, only to be told by their mother that Johnny had been very bad and couldn’t come out.

But didn’t they have landlines when you were a kid Daddy?

Hmmm… I replied, you know that lovely old guy you call Grandad who gives you sweets and chocolates? He would have killed me if he’d caught me using the phone…
