There is Nothing New Under the Sun, but Come On….!

Big League Hair Cuts is my favorite hair cuttery. Free drinks, tv at each station, a good shampoo and scalp massage, a hair cut and a back rub. Great concept.

There is nothing wrong with doing a variation of someone’s business idea, but keeping everything the same except the name is just wrong. Whether it’s Cold Stone Creamery and Marble Slab Ice Cream, or now Big League Hair Cuts and Sports Clips, come on people show a LITTLE originality. BLHC is a baseball theme, and Sports Clips simply widens the theme to all sports. Otherwise, the same. TV, Shampoo, Hair Cut and Back Rub.

Now, if it had been a music theme, or maybe beach theme, fine, BUT IT’S THE SAME SPORTS THING. (of course, that won’t prevent me from using the free haircut coupon…)

It’s probably Pepsi and Coke’s fault. Worked for them…

Ahhh, but which had the idea FIRST? Therein lies the rub. Sport Clips started in Austin, Texas back in the early 90’s. Big League started at the same time. The Founders/CEO’s of both Sport Clips and Big League have spoken often about the similarities in their concepts and apparently they have come to the conclusion that they each honestly came up with their ideas at virtually the same time and completely independently. They remain on good personal terms with each other, and there has been no animosity. If they can live with it, I suppose we can.

Blink-blink… you did research? Cool! Well, good deal, now I can use that coupon without guilt…

Personally I find strange people touching my body unnerving and awkward, but that’s just me (my family gets one hug a year. at christmas. if i like the gift.)Hair cuttery sounds like a Deli or something. Do you have to watch sports on said T.V’s? Hmm. Watching CSI (no conversations that way:-) while someone cuts my hair isn’t to bad but DON’T TOUCH MY BACK OR YOU’LL LOSE THAT ARM LADY!! A little bit exuberant aren’t I? People shouldn’t post as “anonymous”. Anyway, how do you know so much about haircutting places? Creepy. . .

I thought the same thing, but the back massage is done with a machine, not their hands (if it had been by hand I would have declined). If Hair Cuttery sounds like a deli, I bet you get bezores (look it up).You can watch any channel, but it helps to know which channel you want going in (we don’t watch TV, so I don’t know what channels even exist. When they ask “what channel do you want to watch” I have to say “huh? Wha?”)How do I know this stuff? I read junk mail, don’t you?Agreed with the anonymous remark. I originally allowed because you were the only one posting (which is cool, don’t get me wrong) and thought if they didn’t have to hassle with signing in, they’d post more. It doesn’t seem to work, so maybe I’ll turn that off…

Well, this isn’t anonymous. DISCOVERY CHANNEL/CARTOON NETWORK! Always ask for that or Sci Fi. Welll i don’t get cable, but I do watch shows at my grandparents, and i go there all the time. People should click “Other” and write there names. (A certain someone who’s name rhymes with “carissa”)

You know what’s amazing? CSI set in LA is cleaner than CSI set in Miami. But NCSI is definantly the cleanest and coolest. Me and Grandpa watched that after i asked him not to play Miami in front of me and my sibs.

Actually I didn’t really have to “research”. I was vice-President for real estate acquisition for Sport Clips back in the late-90’s when they really began to take off. They have about 500 stores nationwide now. (Big League has less than 50 last time I checked). Anyway, I liked your post and just thought it would only be fair to set the record straight that nobody “copied” anyone in this instance apparently…

I, apparently, don’t spell any better than you do, Joe. It’s “Bezoar” which is the mother of all hairballs. We’re not talking the kind your mangy cats cough up, they can be like croquet balls. Urban Legend has it that a 47 pound bezoar was extracted from a young woman’s stomach. Icky.Thank you, anonymous. I suppose a simple websearch would have halted my rant (or perhaps turned it towards Big League) but there’s no fun in that! Are you one of my regulars (which means a reality friend instead of a virtual friend) or did you stumble across us by accident?

Josie, you spell “their” when it is possessive, not there. I am not the anonymous on this post. I don’t do that kind of research and I’m not that smart. And I didn’t know that you use other to make up all of those funny identities. Blogging is still fairly new to me, remember I’m almost as old as Mr. Swanson!
